Total thyroidectomy with lymph node dissection
Thyroidectomy with neck dissection in Tunis, Tunisia · Centre Urbain Nord
Complete removal of the thyroid together with the lymph nodes of the neck, as part of the treatment of some thyroid cancers.
What is it?

When is it indicated?
When ultrasound or needle biopsy shows that lymph nodes in the neck are affected, they are removed with the thyroid to treat all visible disease.
This particular form of cancer usually justifies a lymph node dissection together with the thyroidectomy.
In some higher-risk situations, dissection allows a better assessment of the disease and reduces the risk of recurrence in the neck.
If lymph nodes reappear after a first operation, a neck dissection may be offered to remove them.
