Mastectomy (breast removal)
Mastectomy in Tunis, Tunisia · Centre Urbain Nord
Complete removal of the breast when it cannot be conserved, with the option of immediate or delayed reconstruction.
What is it?

When is it indicated?
When the tumour is large compared with the breast, removing it while keeping the breast would give a poor result or leave a risk.
When the disease affects several areas of the breast, complete removal is the safest option.
If cancer returns in a breast already treated by lumpectomy and radiotherapy, mastectomy is generally offered.
Keeping the breast requires radiotherapy; if it is not possible, mastectomy takes its place.
After full information, some women, particularly carriers of a genetic mutation, choose to have the breast removed.
