Pleura and lung
Thoracoscopy (pleural biopsy, pleural effusion, pneumothorax)
Examination and treatment of the pleura using a camera passed between two ribs: biopsy, drainage of an effusion or treatment of a pneumothorax.
Chest drainage
Insertion of a drain between two ribs to remove air, fluid or blood collected around the lung and allow it to re-expand.
Pulmonary lobectomy
Removal of a lobe of the lung, mainly to treat a lung tumour, by video-assisted thoracoscopy or through an incision between two ribs.
