Breast fat grafting (lipofilling)

Breast fat grafting in Tunis, Tunisia · Centre Urbain Nord

Moderate enlargement or reshaping of the breasts by transferring the patient's own fat, without implants.

What is it?

Breast fat grafting involves harvesting fat by gentle liposuction from a reserve area (abdomen, hips, thighs), preparing it, then reinjecting it into the breasts. It can provide a moderate gain in volume, correct an asymmetry or improve the shape of the breasts without an implant. This technique is mainly suited to women who want a subtle enlargement, who have sufficient fat reserves and who do not want implants. It is also widely used in reconstructive surgery: after treatment for breast cancer, to improve a reconstruction, or to correct a malformation (tuberous breast, significant asymmetry). The gain in volume is limited and variable: part of the fat is reabsorbed, and two sessions are sometimes needed. A mammogram and ultrasound scan are requested beforehand depending on age and medical history, and radiological follow-up remains possible after the procedure, provided the radiologist is told about the fat grafting. These points are explained in consultation, with time to think before any decision. At Clinique Pasteur Tunis, breast fat grafting is performed in the operating theatre by a plastic surgeon, as a day case or with a short hospital stay, with regular follow-up after the procedure.

When is it indicated?

Wish for a subtle enlargement without implants

For women who want a little more volume and prefer to avoid an implant, fat offers a more natural alternative, with a limited gain.

Breast asymmetry

When one breast is smaller than the other, fat can rebalance the volumes.

Tuberous breast or malformation

Some malformations of the breast shape can be improved with fat, on its own or combined with other procedures.

After treatment for breast cancer

Fat grafting helps correct a deformity after breast-conserving surgery or refine a breast reconstruction.

Improving the contours around an implant

In a patient who already has implants, fat can conceal a visible edge and soften the cleavage.

Aftercare & Recovery

The breasts are swollen at first, and the donor areas are tender, as after liposuction. A compression garment is worn for a few weeks. The final volume can be assessed after three to six months. A radiological check may be offered, and the fat grafting must always be mentioned at future mammograms.

Risks and side effects

Bruising and moderate pain in the treated areas
Partial reabsorption of the fat, which may warrant a second session
Small nodules or oil cysts, usually benign, investigated by imaging if necessary
Infection, rare

These risks remain rare. Your surgeon will inform you in detail before the procedure.
